  • ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    The minimum requirement for entry to the postgraduate programme is:

    • A Bachelor's degree with a CGPA of 3.00/4 or equivalent in a related field; or
    • Any Bachelor's degree with working experience related to the field of study.
  • LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

    • A minimum score of 40 for TOEFL (Internet-based); or
    • A minimum of Band 7.5 for TOEFL Essentials (Online); or
    • A minimum of Band 5 for IELTS; or

  • OVERVIEW

    Doctor of Philosophy in Anthropology and Sociology consists of research programmes offered throughout the year. These programmes are offered as full-time and part-time modes to qualified Malaysian and International students to carry out research supervised by their respective lecturers in the field of Anthropology and Sociology. Anthropology and Sociology is an area of study for students with a particular interest in relationships and the complexity of cooperation, conflict and communication which constitutes any society. Both fields of Anthropology and Sociology explore the social and cultural realities of life in all its forms.     Introduction
    The Centre of Islamic Development Management (ISDEV) offers two post-graduate degrees, Master of Islamic Development Management by research. However, students for the degree of Master of Islamic Development Management are required to successfully complete two preparatory post-graduate level courses. Students who lack the necessary background in the discipline they are applying for may be required to successfully complete undergraduate level courses as specified by the Sections concerned. Both the M.Islamic Development Management and Ph.D. degrees are offered on a full-time and part-time basis.

    1.     Graduate Seminar (Research Proposal Presentation)

    Candidates are required to prepare a research proposal in consultation with the supervisor. The research proposal will then be circulated amongst Section members before presentation at a seminar. The seminar shall be chaired by a member of the Section and attended by academic staff of the Section and other post-graduate students. The candidate shall then undertake to make the necessary amendments to the proposal as suggested by the Section and submit it to the supervisor for approval. On approval of the research proposal, the candidate shall then proceed with his/her research and thesis proper.

     2.     Thesis

    Candidates are required to produce a Master Islamic Development Management thesis. This shall be done in consultation with the supervisor. A thesis should not exceed 50,000 words. The thesis shall be evaluated by an External Examiner (one) and an Internal Examiner (one). On receipt of their reports the candidate is required to defend his/her thesis at a viva organised by the Thesis Examination Committee of the University. The candidate must notify the Registrar in writing of the intention to submit the thesis three months prior to submission. This can only be carried out after the supervisor and ISDEV Director are satisfied that all the necessary requirements have been fulfilled and all work completed satisfactorily.

PhD (Islamic Development Management) -

  • OVERVIEW

    A recognized Master degree from a relevant field of study is the requirement for admission into the Ph.D. programme. Equivalent qualifications will also be considered. Candidates must show proof that they are adequately prepared for specialized research at the doctoral level. Candidates who do not meet the stipulated requirements will be required to take additional courses as required by the Section

    It is essential that a Research Proposal of not more than 3,000 words be submitted with the application forms, for the application to be considered.

    The degree of Doctor of Philosophy is by thesis. The Ph.D. thesis should not exceed 80,000 words. Candidates are also required to fulfill requirements as stipulated for the research proposal seminar for Masters candidate. For Ph.D. candidates there shall be one external examiner and two internal examiners. Other requirements relating to the thesis are similar to Masters candidates.

    The period of candidature for Ph.D. candidates shall not be less than 24 months and should not exceed a maximum of 60 months for full-time candidates. For part-time candidates it is a minimum of 36 months and a maximum of 90 months. The residency requirement for full-time candidates is 24 months whilst that for part-time candidates is 15 days in a calendar year.
