  • OVERVIEW

    Master of Science (Nutrition) by Research Mode is a graduate program designed to train students in advanced research within the field of nutrition. This program focuses on understanding the role of nutrition in human health, diseases, and overall well-being. Students will conduct original research in various areas related to nutrition and its impact on health, with a particular emphasis on disease prevention, public health, and clinical nutrition.

    The program covers a wide range of research topics, including:

    • Clinical Nutrition: Investigating the role of nutrition in the prevention, treatment, and management of diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and gastrointestinal disorders.
    • Public Health Nutrition: Studying the relationship between nutrition and public health, including nutrition interventions, food security, and the impact of nutrition policies on population health.
    • Nutritional Biochemistry: Exploring the molecular mechanisms of how nutrients affect cellular functions, gene expression, and metabolic pathways.
    • Nutritional Epidemiology: Researching the dietary patterns and health outcomes in populations, and identifying risk factors associated with diet-related diseases.
    • Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals: Investigating foods and bioactive compounds that provide health benefits beyond basic nutrition, such as probiotics, antioxidants, and functional foods for chronic disease prevention.
    • Child and Adolescent Nutrition: Examining the nutritional needs and dietary habits of children and adolescents, with a focus on growth, development, and prevention of childhood obesity.
    • Sports Nutrition: Researching the dietary needs of athletes, including energy metabolism, nutrient timing, and the role of supplements in improving athletic performance.
    • Nutritional Interventions: Studying the effectiveness of nutrition programs and interventions for disease prevention, weight management, and improving overall health in different populations.
    • Food Safety and Toxicology: Investigating the safety of foods, foodborne illnesses, food additives, contaminants, and their effects on human health.

  • ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants should possess the following:

    A MBBS/MD or equivalent degree, BSc in Medical Sciences/Biotechnology/Biology/ Chemistry/Physics or other related fields from a recognised university.

    A) CGPA of at least 2.75/4.00; or
    B) CGPA of 2.50 - 2.74/4.00 with; or

    • Research experience – 1 year; or
    • Professional experience in related field- 1 year; or
    • One(1) academic publication in related field; or
    • Grade B for major/ elective courses; or
    • Grade B+ for final year project.

    C) CGPA of 2.00 - 2.49/4.00 (Honours degree) with; or

    • Research experience - 5 years; or
    • Professional experience in related field - 5 years, AND
    • One (1) academic publications  in related field; or
    • Grade B for major/elective courses; or
    • Grade B+ for final year project.

      Master of Science (Chemical Pathology) by Research Mode is a specialized graduate program aimed at students interested in conducting in-depth research in the field of chemical pathology. This program focuses on the study of biochemical processes in the body, particularly related to disease diagnosis, metabolic disorders, and clinical laboratory practices. It is ideal for individuals who want to pursue careers in clinical chemistry, laboratory research, or medical diagnostics.

      Students can explore a variety of research topics within Chemical Pathology, including:

      • Biochemical Markers in Disease: Investigating the role of biochemical markers (enzymes, hormones, lipids, proteins, etc.) in the diagnosis and management of diseases.
      • Metabolic Disorders: Researching the biochemical pathways involved in metabolic disorders such as diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and lipid disorders.
      • Clinical Chemistry: Investigating the biochemical analysis of body fluids (blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluid) for disease diagnosis, including novel diagnostic methods and techniques.
      • Molecular Diagnostics: Exploring the use of molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, gene sequencing) in diagnosing metabolic and genetic diseases.
      • Kidney and Liver Diseases: Researching biochemical markers used to diagnose and monitor kidney and liver diseases, including acute and chronic conditions.

This program focuses on using radioactive materials to diagnose and treat diseases, particularly cancer, heart disease, and neurological disorders. As a research-based program, it allows students to engage in original research within the field, providing them with hands-on experience in cutting-edge technologies.

        Students in the Master of Science (Nuclear Medicine) program can focus on a variety of research areas within nuclear medicine, including:

        • Nuclear Medicine Imaging: Researching techniques such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT), and radiopharmaceutical development for imaging organs and tissues in the body.
        • Radiation Therapy: Studying the use of targeted radiation for the treatment of cancer and other diseases, including radiation dosimetry, radiation delivery mechanisms, and improving treatment outcomes.
        • Radiopharmaceuticals: Investigating the development, preparation, and clinical applications of radioactive substances used for diagnosis and therapy, including radiolabeled tracers.
        • Molecular Imaging: Exploring the molecular and cellular processes involved in diseases using advanced nuclear imaging technologies.

As a research-based program, it provides the opportunity for students to contribute to the field through original research and develop a deep understanding of pathological processes.

          The program offers a variety of research opportunities in different areas of pathology, including:

          • Molecular Pathology: Investigating the genetic, molecular, and cellular mechanisms underlying diseases, with a focus on cancer, genetic disorders, and other pathologies.
          • Clinical Pathology: Researching the laboratory diagnosis of diseases, including blood, urine, and tissue analysis, as well as the development of diagnostic biomarkers.
          • Hematopathology: Studying blood-related diseases, such as leukemias, lymphomas, anemia, and other hematological disorders.
          • Immunopathology: Exploring how immune system dysfunction leads to diseases, including autoimmune diseases, hypersensitivity reactions, and immune-related cancers.
          • Neoplastic Pathology: Research on the cellular and molecular changes in cancers, understanding tumor biology, cancer progression, and therapy resistance.
          • Forensic Pathology: Studying the causes of death in forensic settings, including autopsy techniques, post-mortem investigations, and the role of pathology in legal investigations.
          • Histopathology: Investigating tissue samples to identify abnormal growths or pathological changes, with applications in diagnostics and therapeutic decision-making.

          • OVERVIEW

            The course aims to contribute to the establishment of a pool of medical educationists who will be advising medical professionals and evaluating medical and allied health programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as increasing candidates' knowledge, skills and attitudes regarding medical education so as to increase their effectiveness as teachers or trainers in their respective institutions.


            It is also hoped that this programme will prepare potential candidates to carry out further responsibilities as academicians and do research, publish articles, as well as undertake academic administration and management.

            The course consists of 4 semesters. In the first 2 semesters, candidates will be full-time students undergoing coursework. A research project will be carried out in the third and fourth semesters in the candidate's individual home institutions.
