OVERVIEW
The Bachelor of Economics programme was launched in the Academic Year 2011/2012 upon being approved by the Senate of Universiti Sains Malaysia in the year 2010. The programme is in line with the vision and mission of the university in its efforts to achieve sustainability amidst the increasingly challenging global economic environment. The nation’s rapid development has increased the demand for skilled and semi-skilled workers. The areas of study in the field of economics which include monetary economics, business and trade, development and planning, industrialization and labour/human capital will help meet the nation’s demand for skilled and semi-skilled labour. These applied fields of economics are not only necessary for a developing country like Malaysia but it also appeals to individuals who are inclined to such disciplines. The Bachelor of Economics aims to increase the pool of economic graduates who are of high caliber, dynamic, able to think critically and competitive, in order to meet the requirements of the nation. In the current economic situation, Malaysia needs economic graduates who are able to apply the study of economics in designing effective polices for the nation’s economic development. The Bachelor of Economics program emphasizes a quantitative and applied-based approach which are important tools for the formulation of economic policies.
