Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) offers a wide range of postgraduate programmes through its academic schools and research centres, in line with its status as an APEX and Research University. Candidates can choose from three study modes: Research Mode (MSc/PhD), Coursework Mode, and Mixed Mode, which combines coursework with a research project.

USM also offers Open and Distance Learning (ODL), a fully online option designed for working professionals, providing flexible and self-paced learning without location constraints.

These programmes cover various fields, including Pure and Applied Sciences, Engineering, Medical and Health Sciences, Arts and Humanities, and Business and Management. USM also offers selected Master’s and PhD programmes at offshore centres in several countries, giving international students access to the same academic standards and qualifications as those at the main campus.
