Overview

Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) also offers admission through the Alternative Channel which allows applicants to apply directly to USM outside the regular UPU admission pathway. This pathway is designed to provide broader access and opportunities for individuals with diverse qualifications, talents, experiences, and educational backgrounds.

The Alternative Channel includes several admission categories and programmes, namely:

Alternative Channel (Saluran Alternatif / Second Channel) – An alternative route for applicants with recognized qualifications outside the standard UPU admission system.
Sports Talent Channel – Designed for applicants with notable achievements and active involvement in sports.
Culture Talent Channel – Intended for applicants with accomplishments in arts, culture, music, and related creative fields.
Senior Citizen Channel – Provides lifelong learning opportunities for senior applicants who wish to pursue higher education.
Distance Learning Programme (Rancangan Pendidikan Jarak Jauh – RPJJ) – A flexible learning mode mainly designed for working adults and individuals requiring part-time study arrangements.
Diploma in Nursing – A professional diploma programme that prepares students for careers in nursing practice.
Advanced Diploma in Renal Nursing (Diploma Lanjutan Kejururawatan Renal) – A specialized programme focused on advanced education and training in renal nursing.

Through these alternative pathways, USM aims to promote inclusive and flexible access to higher education while supporting lifelong learning and the development of talents and professional expertise.
