  • OVERVIEW

    The programme aims to

    • To cultivate a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of core cybersecurity principles and practices among postgraduate students.
    • To nurture critical thinking and analytical skills for assessing complex cybersecurity threats and system vulnerabilities.
    • To ensure postgraduates gain practical, real-world experience in implementing cybersecurity solutions and managing operational security environments.
    • To develop expertise in cybersecurity policy, governance, and strategic planning aligned with global and national regulatory frameworks.
    • To bridge academic knowledge with industry applications, preparing students to address contemporary cybersecurity challenges across various sectors.
    • To promote a strong foundation for cybersecurity research and innovation, empowering students to contribute to scholarly advancements and pursue doctoral-level studies

    Course Structure

    The programme comprises 42 units of the following six core courses and three elective courses (from six offered elective courses).

    Semester I

    • Internet Governance (core - 4 units)
    • Advanced Internet Security (core - 4 units)
    • Cybersecurity Research Methodology (core - 4 units)
    • Cyber Security Audit and Assessment (elective – 4 units)
    • Cyber Operations (elective – 4 units)
    • Information Security and Cryptography (elective – 4 units)

    Semester II

    • Identity and Access Management (core - 4 units)
    • Ethical Hacking (core - 4 units)
    • Cyber Security Project (core - 10 units)
    • Security and Risk Management (elective – 4 units)
    • Cyber Threat Intelligence (elective – 4 units)
    • Forensic Analytics and Digital Investigations (elective – 4 units)
  • ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants should possess the following:

    A. Bachelor's degree in related area

    • Computer Science
    • Statistics
    • Information Security/Cybersecurity
    • Physics
    • Information Technology
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Computer Engineering
    • Data Science/Analytics
    • Software Engineering
    • Network Engineering or Administration
    • Information Systems
    • Mathematics
    • Business Administration (with IT/IS concentration)
    • Criminal Justice (with Cybercrime/Digital Forensics concentration)
    • Public Policy/Administration (with Cybersecurity Policy focus)
    • International Relations/Political Science (with Cyber Warfare/Conflict focus)

    1. CGPA of at least 2.75 / 4.00; or

    2. CGPA between 2.50 - 2.74 with the following additional conditions: or

    a) Research experience for at least one year; or
    b) Work experience in related field for at least one year; or
    c) At least one (1) academic publication in the relevant field; or
    d) Grade B for major / elective courses; or
    e) Grade B+ for final year project

    3. CGPA between 2.00 - 2.49 (Bachelor's Degree with Honours) with the following additional conditions: or

    a) Research experience for at least five (5) years; or
    b) Work experience in related field for at least five (5) years; AND
    c) At least one (1) academic publication in the relevant field; or
    d) Grade B for major / elective courses; or
    e) Grade B+ for final year project

  • LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

    Applicable for International students

    • A minimum of Band 5 for IELTS; or
    • A minimum score of 40 for TOEFL (Internet-based); or
    • A minimum of Band 7.5 for TOEFL Essentials (Online); or
    • A minimum score of 154 for Cambridge English: Advance (CAE) / Proficiency (CPE) / Preliminary (PET) / First (FCE) / Linguaskill Online; or
    • A minimum score of 47 for Pearson Test of English (PTE); or
    • A minimum of Band 107 for CIEP Level (ELS); or
    • A minimum of Band 3.5 for Malaysian University English Test (MUET)

    Exemption can be considered if:

    • English is the candidate's mother tongue or National Language; or
    • The candidate graduated from an Institution of Higher Learning in which the medium of instruction is English
  • DURATION

    • Full-time: Min. 2 semesters / Max. 4 semesters
    • Part-time: Min. 4 semesters / Max. 8 semesters
