OVERVIEW
The Master of Social Science in Economics is a research-based programme that provides students with a strong foundation in economic theory, applied economics, statistics and econometrics. The programme prepares students to analyse contemporary economic issues, evaluate public policy, and conduct empirical research relevant to economic and social development. The programme covers the following research thrust areas:
- Development Economics
- Tourism Economics
- Public Economics
- Environmental and Natural Resource Economics
- International Economics and Trade
- Business Economics
- Labour Economics
These thrust areas enable students to conduct research on a wide range of economic issues, including development, tourism, public policy, environmental sustainability, international trade, business decision-making, and labour market dynamics. Graduates on the programme are well prepared for careers in academia, research institutions, government agencies, international organisations, policy think tanks, consultancy firms and the private sector.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The minimum requirement for entry to the postgraduate programme is:
- A Bachelor's degree with a CGPA of 3.00/4 or equivalent in a related field; or
- Any Bachelor's degree with working experience related to the field of study.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
(Applicable for International Applicants Only)
- A minimum score of 40 for TOEFL (Internet-based); or
- A minimum of Band 7.5 for TOEFL Essentials (Online); or
- A minimum of Band 5 for IELTS; or
- A minimum score of 47 for PTE; or
- A minimum score of 154 for Cambridge English (CAE/CPE); or
- A minimum score of 154 for Linguaskill Online; or
- A minimum of Band 3.5 for MUET
Exemption is given to candidate if:
- English is the candidate’s mother tongue or National Language; or
- Candidate graduated from an Institution of Higher Learning in which the medium of instruction at Bachelor and/or Master degree level is English (statement of proof required)
**Candidates will be interviewed by the Selection Panels.
