OVERVIEW
Master of Surgery (Neurosurgery) is a specialized postgraduate course for medical professionals who wish to pursue a career in neurosurgery. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should possess the following:
1. Candidate MUST possess Medical Degree, such as MBBS, MD, MBChB or equivalent qualification accepted by the University Senate and is registered with the Malaysian Medical Council [MMC]- Refer MMC’s portal for the list of recognized institutions https://mmc.gov.my/medical-education-recognition/
- Candidates holding degree from unrecognized institutions are required to sit and pass the Malaysian Medical Qualifying Examination [MQE] prior admission
2. Candidate MUST also possess at least 2 years experience after graduation, either in hospitals or other institutions certified and accepted by the University Senate- Extra requirement for M.S [Neurosurgery]
Candidates must also possess 12 months of experience working in varying surgical specialties of which General Surgery is compulsory for at least 6 months in duration and Neurosurgery compulsory for at least 12 months duration. These attachments must be done in a hospital or institution certified and accepted by the University Senate and/or the by the Ministry of Health Malaysia after completion of Housemanship3. Local candidates are also required to attend a pre-test/interview before the final selection4. Foreign candidates are required to go through a 3 to 6 months clinical attachment and assessment at the respective department prior admission5. Candidate MUST also in good physical and mental condition -
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
(Applicable for International Applicants Only)
- A minimum of Band 5 for IELTS; or
- A minimum score of 40 for TOEFL (Internet-based); or
- A minimum of Band 7.5 for TOEFL Essentials (Online); or
- A minimum score of 154 for Cambridge English: Advance (CAE)/Proficiency (CPE) /Preliminary (PET) /First (FCE)/ Linguaskill Online; or
- A minimum score of 47 for Pearson Test of English (PTE); or
- A minimum of Band 107 for CIEP Level (ELS); or
- A minimum of Band 3.5 for Malaysian University English Test (MUET)
Exemption CAN BE CONSIDERED to candidate if:
- English is the candidate’s mother tongue or National Language; or
- Candidate graduated from an Institution of Higher Learning in which the medium of instruction at Bachelor and/or Master degree level is English (statement of proof required)
