  GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. Open to Malaysian Students and International Students from LOW OR LOWER-MIDDLE INCOME COUNTRIES. Source: Click here.
  2. Only open to registered FULL-TIME RESEARCH MODE PhD postgraduate students.
  3. Application must be made in first semester of the study OR at least in the second semester. Eligible for students who have registered in Semester II 2024/2025 (March 2025) and Semester I 2025/2026 (October 2025).
  4. The scheme has a maximum duration of 36 months and must be renewed every semester within this period. Renewal is based on the progress of the research study.

  APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s Degree with CGPA>3.00/4.00 or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Malaysian Government.
  2. Master’s Degree by coursework/mixed mode with CGPA>3.50/4.00 or Master’s Degree by research mode or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Malaysian Government
  3. At least has one manuscript published in a journal indexed by WoS/SCOPUS.

  ⚠ Only tuition fee will be covered – No Allowance Provided.
  (Not inclusive 6% Sales and Service Tax (SST) imposed by government of Malaysia (International only)

• POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH ATTACHMENT (PGRA)

  Application is closed for now.

  1. The applicant must be a registered USM student at a master’s degree (research mode) or PhD with good research progress.
  2. The research attachment is only for Universities / Research institutions with active MOU/ MOA with USM.
  3. Application must be accompanied by an official invitation letter from the intended Institution where the PGRA will commence.
  4. The duration of the PGRA fund is one to three months.
  5. Upon completion, the student is required to provide publication in the indexed journals within one year as proof of output from the attachment.
  6. The publication must be co-authored by the host scientist.
  7. Maximum funding of PGRA is RM4000.

• GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

  Requirements:

  • Candidate who has received a full admission offer letter from USM for studying Masters or Ph.D by research mode, YET TO REGISTER as a FULL-TIME student is eligible to apply. Application for part-time students would NOT be considered.
  • Open to all Malaysian (Masters and Ph.D) and International (Ph.D) candidates only.

  a) MSc Candidate

  • Must have obtained a bachelor’s degree with a CGPA ≥ 3.33 OR an equivalent qualification that is recognized by the Malaysian Government.
  • Preference is given to those who had sent in manuscript for publication in a journal indexed by WoS/SCOPUS/ERA.

  b) Ph.D Candidate

  • Must have obtained a master’s degree by coursework/mixed mode with a CGPA ≥ 3.33 OR a master’s degree by research mode OR an equivalent qualification that is recognized by the Malaysian Government.
  • Must have at least ONE manuscript published in a journal indexed by WoS/SCOPUS/ERA.

  c) Supervisor

  The main supervisor must have:

  • At least ONE (1) active (the active duration of the grant must still have at least 1 year from the date of application) and sufficient research grant as Principal Investigator to support the candidate research throughout the candidature duration; OR
  • At least TWO (2) publications in journals indexed by WoS/SCOPUS/ERA as Corresponding Author for the previous year.

  This financial support would be awarded to the awardee on semester basis.

  The awardee needs to apply for the extension before second semester starts. The decision on the extension is based on the research progress of the awardee, including the SUBMISSION of at least ONE (1) manuscript to a journal indexed by WoS (Q1/Q2), where the awardee must be the first student author and the supervisor must be one of the authors' list.

• POSTGRADUATE CONFERENCE FUND

  Applications are open until 15 October 2026. Please visit IPS official website for the application form.

  1. Open to students who have attended or will be attending conference (physical/online) as a presenter for ORAL presentation for a period of time.
  2. Applicant must be a registered full-time active research mode postgraduate student of Universiti Sains Malaysia.
  3. All applicants are required to submit their application of the conference with the relevant documents:-
     • Details of conference (e.g. brochures, pamphlet, details of keynote speakers etc.)
     • Offer/Invitation letter from organiser (oral presentation)
     • Conference’s detail (including fee) for physical/online mode
  4. Those already submitted their thesis for examination are not eligible to apply.
  5. Please take note that your funding will be cancelled upon submission of your thesis for examination.
  6. Maximum funding is MYR 1,000 per student within the candidature, subject to the availability of fund.
  7. The official receipt must be submitted to IPS for reimbursement purpose after the conference.
  8. The complete application form (with the school dean’s endorsement) and the relevant documents must be sent to IPS at least 3 weeks prior to conference.
