  • OVERVIEW

    The programme aims to train and prepare students to manage development in the Islamic way. It is the first academic programme that integrates the Islamic-based fields of development and management in a holistic way.

    Prospective Candidates

    The programme is trans-disciplinary in nature and as such can be pursued by candidates from various fields of study, whether from the art-based disciplines such as management, development, economics, political science, sociology, anthropology, communication, history, geography, literature; from the science-based disciplines or from the field of Islamic Studies.

    Candidates who have been accepted into the programme will have the opportunity to benefit from the existence of, utilise the facilities offered by, and participate in activities organised by the Centre for Islamic Development Management Studies (ISDEV) which pioneers this field of study.

    Each candidate must accumulate forty (40) credit hours which comprise four (4) compulsory course consisting of four (4) credit hours, and a dissertation which carries twenty (20) credit hours.

  • ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants should possess the following:

    A. Bachelor's degree in related field

    1. CGPA of at least 2.75 / 4.00; or

    2. CGPA between 2.50 - 2.74 with the following additional conditions: or

    a) Research experience for at least one year; or
    b) Work experience in related field for at least one year; or
    c) At least one (1) academic publication in the relevant field; or
    d) Grade B for major / elective courses; or
    e) Grade B+ for final year project

    3. CGPA between 2.00 - 2.49 (Bachelor's Degree with Honours) with the following additional conditions: or

    a) Research experience for at least five (5) years; or
    b) Work experience in related field for at least five (5) years; AND
    c) At least one (1) academic publication in the relevant field; or
    d) Grade B for major / elective courses; or
    e) Grade B+ for final year project

    • A minimum score of 60 for TOEFL (Internet-based); or
    • A minimum of Band 8.5 for TOEFL Essentials (Online); or
    • A minimum score of 169 for Cambridge English: Advance (CAE)/Proficiency (CPE) /Preliminary (PET) /First (FCE)/ Linguaskill Online min. score 169/ Occupational English Test (OET) min. score 250; or
    • A minimum score of 59 for Pearson Test of English (PTE); or
    • A minimum of Band 109 for CIEP Level (ELS); or
    • A minimum of Band 4 for Malaysian University English Test (MUET)

    Exemption is given to candidate if:

    • English is the candidate’s mother tongue or National Language; or
    • Candidate graduated from an Institution of Higher Learning in which the medium of instruction at Bachelor and/or Master degree level is English (statement of proof required)

  • OVERVIEW

    The Master of Arts in Translation for Professionals programme is specially designed for graduates who want to equip themselves with the relevant skills and knowledge required for the diverse needs in the field of translation. This programme is suitable for graduates interested in a professional career in translation and for translators who need further specialised skills to enhance their professional expertise. Besides theoretical knowledge, extensive translation and interpretation practice based on a variety of language combinations which are paired with English, such as English-Malay, English-Arabic, English-Chinese will be provided.  

    The course is tailored for proficient bilinguals who want to extend their knowledge and expertise for professional translation purposes. It gives emphasis to the training of professional translators who can help meet local as well as global demands for translation specialists.

    This programme also provides an excellent platform for students to be conversant with Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) tools as part of their training.

    The Master of Social Science in Anthropology and Sociology consists of research programmes offered throughout the year.
