Master of Neuroscience


OVERVIEW

This M.Neurosc Programme offers a unique access to the postgraduate fundamental neuroscience education and research training in Malaysia, based at the Department of Neurosciences, USM School of Medical Sciences.

As a mixed-mode programme, the teaching and learning involve didactic classes (lectures and tutorials), coursework, seminars, laboratory placements, research project and a final thesis defense (20-30% coursework & 70-80% research).

The M.Neurosc is based on the successful and satisfactory completion of 44 credit Units of graduate work, including a Master dissertation.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
  • A Bachelor Degree (in Basic Sciences, Medical & Health Sciences or related fields) with a CGPA > 3.0/4 from a recognised institution, or
  • A Bachelor Degree in the fields stated above with CGPA less than 3.0/4 but more than 2.5/4 may also apply, provided this is supported by no less than 2 years research experience in the related fields, or had acquired a commendable grade (Grade A and equivalent) in the respective Bachelor Degree final year project.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

(Applicable for International Applicants Only)

  • A minimum of Band 5 for IELTS; or
  • A minimum score of 40 for TOEFL (Internet-based); or
  • A minimum of Band 7.5 for TOEFL Essentials (Online); or
  • A minimum score of 154 for Cambridge English: Advance (CAE)/Proficiency (CPE) /Preliminary (PET) /First (FCE)/ Linguaskill Online; or
  • A minimum score of 47 for Pearson Test of English (PTE); or
  • A minimum of Band 107 for CIEP Level (ELS); or
  • A minimum of Band 3.5 for Malaysian University English Test (MUET)

Exemption CAN BE CONSIDERED to candidate if:

  • English is the candidate’s mother tongue or National Language; or
  • Candidate graduated from an Institution of Higher Learning in which the medium of instruction at Bachelor and/or Master degree level is English (statement of proof required)
