Master of Science (Medical Radiation)

OVERVIEW

Master of Science (Medical Radiation) by Research Mode is designed for individuals who wish to specialize in the application of radiation in medicine, particularly in areas such as radiology, radiotherapy, and nuclear medicine. This program is research-intensive and provides students with an in-depth understanding of how radiation is used in medical diagnostics and treatment, as well as the associated safety and technological advancements in the field.

Students in the Master of Science (Medical Radiation) program may explore various research topics related to the medical applications of radiation. These may include:

  • Radiology and Medical Imaging: Research into the use of different radiation-based imaging techniques, such as X-rays, CT scans (computed tomography), MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), and nuclear imaging (e.g., positron emission tomography (PET), single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)).
  • Radiotherapy and Radiation Oncology: Studying the use of radiation in the treatment of cancer, including the development of new techniques for radiation delivery, treatment planning, dose optimization, and quality assurance in radiotherapy.
  • Radiation Protection: Investigating methods to protect both patients and healthcare workers from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation. This includes the development of radiation safety standards and protocols in medical environments.
  • Nuclear Medicine: Researching the use of radioactive isotopes for diagnosing and treating diseases, including the development of new radiopharmaceuticals and imaging techniques.
  • Medical Dosimetry: Exploring the measurement and calculation of radiation doses used in medical treatments, ensuring the accuracy of radiation delivery for optimal treatment outcomes.
  • Medical Physics and Radiation Technology: Investigating the physical principles behind medical radiation technologies, such as the interaction of radiation with matter and how this is applied to imaging and treatment.
  • Radiation Biology: Studying the biological effects of ionizing radiation on human tissues, including understanding radiation-induced damage at the cellular and molecular levels, and its implications for medical treatments.
