PhD (Pharmaceutical Technology) - School of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Opportunities are available to suitably qualified graduates to carry out research in natural product chemistry and drug discovery, drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics, dosage form design and formulation development, pharmaceutical biotechnology, pharmaceutical microbiology, drug delivery systems, traditional medicine, pharmacognosy, analytical chemistry, biosciences and neural sciences, hospital pharmacy, community pharmacy, public health pharmacy, sociobehavioural aspects of pharmacy, pharmaceutical economics, pharmacoepidemiology, medicines policy and administrative aspects of pharmacy.
Transdisciplinary research is encouraged within the School and with other Schools within the university. There are also opportunities to be involved in research projects which are carried out in collaboration with other universities, institutions, industry and community in Malaysia, as well as abroad.
Research projects in the following areas are available:
- Design and development of novel drug delivery systems, including oral, topical, transdermal and pulmonary, for drugs as well as bioactives from natural sources
- Bioavailability studies
- Characterisation of pharmaceutical formulations and materials
- Pharmaceutical biotechnology
- Bioinformatics and molecular modelling
- Pharmaceutical microbiology
Expertise available in the following School: School of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Applicants should possess one of the following:
- A Master's degree in research mode; or
- A Master’s degree in related area with CGPA 3.00/4; or
- A Master’s degree in related area with CGPA 2.50-2.99/4 with additional requirements; or
- Bachelor’s degree in related area with minimum CGPA 3.67/4 (fast-track to PhD)
International applicants are required to undergo interview conducted by the school.

- A minimum score of 70 in Internet- Based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language); or
- A minimum score of Band 6.0 in IELTS (International English Language Testing System); or
- A minimum score of 169 in Cambridge English: Advance (CAE); or
- A minimum score of 169 in Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE); or
- A minimum score of 169 in Linguaskill; or
- A minimum score of 59 in Pearson Test of English (PTE); or
- A minimum score of Band 4 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET); or
- A minimum score of 109 in Certified Intensive English Programme Level (CIEP Level) ELS
Exemption can be given if:
- English is the candidate's mother tongue or National Language; or
- The candidate graduated from an Institution of Higher Learning in which the medium of instruction is English
- Full-time: Min 4 semesters / Max 10 semesters
- Part-time: Min 6 semesters / Max 15 semesters
