  • OVERVIEW

    The Master of Architecture Programme at School of HBP is a two-year course which is equivalent to the LAM Part II accreditation upon successful completion. This is a continuation of Bachelor of Science HBP (Architecture) or a similar Degree from other local universities or abroad with LAM Part I accreditation or equivalent. The course objective is to train future architects to be competent in exploring the design process and related skills vital to a professional architect. This master degree also provides opportunities for students to conduct a special area of study on contemporary issues such as sustainability, special technologies, conservation or other areas of special interests.

    The course comprises of two years programme where the first year aims at exposing students to the design of multi storey building, focusing on technological and green aspect whereas the second semester is dedicated to problem solving of unique housing design concepts for human settlement. Students are also expected to explore smaller projects of different variety, site context and scale.

    In the final year, students are expected to do an independent design thesis study of a challenging typology that suits their interest and touches on wider architectural issues. The programme promotes a holistic green approach in design, combining energy efficiency, optimum indoor environmental quality and other relevant green criteria to produce future architects who are energy conscious, forward thinking and sensitive to the environment offering revolutionary and innovative solutions for future needs. Students are also expected to be sensitive to physical, social and cultural exploration while developing strong philosophy, within an array of contemporary issues and styles. A key objective is to produce designers who have critical and analytical thinking with creative design solving capability for global future.

    The pre-requisite to enter the course is to have undergone a minimum duration of 6 months of working experience in the relevant architectural field after completing the Bachelor of Architecture. The study path to Master of Architecture that is offered by the School of HBP is as shown below:

  • ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    Candidates interested to pursue the Master of Architecture degree must fulfill the requirements listed below:

    1) Fulfill the general requirements of USM’s Graduate School

    2) Candidate should hold a good first degree in Bachelor of Science HBP (Architecture), USM or Bachelor of Architecture (equivalent to LAM Part I) from other universities of higher institutions accredited by the Board of Architects Malaysia (LAM)

    i. Hold a CGPA minimum of 2.75 for the Bachelor of Science HBP (Architecture) or from other universities or institutions with equivalent of LAM Part I with at least 6 months of working experience in relevant fields after graduation

    ii. If candidates’ CGPA is in the range of 2.5 – 2.74, one year minimum of working experience after graduation is required in relevant fields

    iii. If candidates’ CGPA is in the range of 2.0 – 2.49, five years minimum of working experience after graduation is required in relevant fields

    3) Successful in the interview process

    Introduction and Objective

    The goal of this programme is to produce workforce/human resource in the field of Big Data Analytics who are capable of making decisions based on the availability of comprehensive data. Therefore, the objective of this programme is to produce graduates who:

    CDS590 – Consultancy Project and Practicum

    This experiential work-based learning course prepares students to be a data scientist/analytics consultant by enhancing the students’ knowledge and skills in research, planning and implementation of a consultancy project in the field of data science/analytics, which can be applied to real-life situation. Students are required to complete the practicum at their respective workplace or their chosen/assigned organisation. Students work under the supervision of a lecturer and an industry mentor. The students are required to solve a real-world problem or tap opportunities related to data science and analytics during their practicum. The prerequisite of this course is CDS506 which must be taken in the preceding semester. The students are required to secure practicum placement together with project proposal during CDS506.

    At the end of this course, the students will be able to:

    • Perform work collaboratively in a multi-ethnic environment with superior, colleagues, staff and supervisors.
    • Analyse the needs and/or problems related to data analytics in the workplace.
    • Identify suitable quantitative and analytical tools (including software, technology and technical know-how) to propose usable solution to complex, ambiguous, unstructured problem in real world setting.
    • Practice effective communication in writing and orally the progress and achievement of the practicum.
    • Display leadership behaviours such as initiative, focussed, and high-performance standards.

    The full coursework Master of Science in Environmental Science program is designed to develop your environmental scientific and analytical skills for a professional career in the government or private sectors. It is an interdisciplinary program that combines the natural and social sciences within a technology-based multidisciplinary framework.

    Career Prospects

    By obtaining this Master's Degree, you widen your career opportunities. In the management field, you can be a policy advisor, environmental manager, or government officer. In business, you can be an environmental consultant or product manager. In research, you will be able to be an academic, environmental science specialist, or a researcher. This Master's degree will also allow you to proceed to a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in diverse fields such as in the Sciences, Engineering, Technology, or even Social Sciences.

    The Program Structure

    Classes are held on weekends. Labs would be on the weekdays. Registration is open two times a year. You can register for the first or second semester.

    To graduate, you would need to complete 40-unit courses, which cover core and elective courses, 27 and 20 units, respectively. You need to take all core courses (a total of 27 units), but you can choose the elective courses (a total of 13 units). A typical program would consist of two semesters; each semester would be 18 weeks or four months long.
