  • OVERVIEW

    The programme aims to provide a strong fundamental understanding in the field of molecular medicine through comprehensive student-centred learning activities and a practical, hands-on experience in research and entrepreneurial aspects of the biomedical field. The programme has an emphasis on translational research with a focus on biomarker discovery and the development of vaccines and therapeutics.  


    The programme consists of three semesters. In the first semester, candidates will undertake core courses. In the second semester students can select a research- or an industry-focused pathway allowing them to customize learning that will be relevant towards their career goals. A research project will be carried out in the second and third semesters.

    Applicants should possess the following:

    A. Bachelor's degree in Science or related area with:

    1. CGPA of at least 2.75 / 4.00; or

    2. CGPA between 2.50 - 2.74 with the following additional conditions: or

    a) Research experience for at least one year; or
    b) Work experience in related field for at least one year; or
    c) At least one (1) academic publication in the relevant field; or
    d) Grade B for major / elective courses; or
    e) Grade B+ for final year project

    3. CGPA between 2.00 - 2.49 (Bachelor's Degree with Honours) with the following additional conditions: or

    a) Research experience for at least five (5) years; or
    b) Work experience in related field for at least five (5) years; AND

  • OVERVIEW

    The Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in Health System Management (HSM) is a professional graduate programme in the field of Public Health. It is established to train Community Medicine Specialists/Public Health Specialists who are knowledgeable and skilful in the speciality of Health System Management. The thrust of the programme is the professional development of candidates, i.e. strengthening their abilities to solve community health problem while enhancing their competencies in conducting research.

  • OVERVIEW

    This M.Neurosc Programme offers a unique access to the postgraduate fundamental neuroscience education and research training in Malaysia, based at the Department of Neurosciences, USM School of Medical Sciences.

    As a mixed-mode programme, the teaching and learning involve didactic classes (lectures and tutorials), coursework, seminars, laboratory placements, research project and a final thesis defense (20-30% coursework & 70-80% research).

    The M.Neurosc is based on the successful and satisfactory completion of 44 credit Units of graduate work, including a Master dissertation.

  • OVERVIEW

    The Master of Dental Public Health is a full time master program. Dental Public Health is the specialty of dentistry that concerns with the promotion of oral health, the prevention of oral diseases, and the provision and administration of oral health and dental care services in defined populations and communities.  It recognises the role of behavioural and environmental factors as determinants of oral health. Epidemiological principles are applied to describe and define dental public health problems, as well as to formulate and evaluate oral health programs and policies. This approach aims to improve the oral health of communities as much as individuals through practice of evidence-based dentistry and proficient management of oral health care and resources.

  • OVERVIEW

    The Master of Public Health (MPH) programme is a two-semester course conducted fully in English. Besides advanced theoretical inputs, candidates are also exposed to hands-on learning in analytical skills, rigorous training in research methodology and direct field experience in the community. The general objective of the programme is to produce competent health professionals with appropriate knowledge and skills in public health.  Graduates from the programme are expected to be able to plan, implement and evaluate effective public health programmes that can improve the quality of life of the community. The programme is most suitable for medical doctors who are faced with the challenges of promoting public health in developing countries.
     
    Specific Objectives of the Programme 
     
    On successful completion of the programme, graduates are expected to be sufficiently competent to:

    The programme is structured into one academic year of teaching consisting of two semesters of 14 weeks each. Candidates are required to complete all the courses listed in both semesters above. They carry a total of 40 units consisting of 32 core units and 8 units of Research Project.
     
    Supervision and Achievement Report
     
    Academic supervisors amongst the lecturers of the Department Of Community Medicine and Unit of Biostatistics & Research Methodology will be appointed to supervise the candidate. They will closely supervise the candidates and will fill up the supervisor report form at the end of each semester.
     
    Teaching and Learning Approaches
     
    The coursework is delivered through lectures, class presentations (theory), practicals, field visits and a research project.
  • ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants should possess the following:

    1.    Candidate MUST possess Medical Degree, such as MBBS, MD, MBChB or equivalent qualification accepted by the University Senate and is registered with the Malaysian Medical Council [MMC]

    • Candidates holding degree from unrecognized institutions are required to sit and pass the Malaysian Medical Qualifying Examination [MQE] prior admission

    2.    Candidate MUST also possess at least 2 years experience after graduation, either in hospitals or other institutions certified and accepted by the University Senate

    3.    Local candidates are also required to attend a pre-test/interview before the final selection

    4.    Foreign candidates are required to go through a 3 to 6 months clinical attachment and assessment at the respective department prior admission

    5.    Candidate MUST also in good physical and mental condition
