  • OVERVIEW

    The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Product Design with Honours program at the School of the Arts, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is a comprehensive and rigorous course that prepares students for a career in product design. This four-year program focuses on developing students' design skills, creativity, and critical thinking abilities while equipping them with technical skills in various design tools and software.

    The program is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in design theory, aesthetics, and human-centered design. Students will learn about various design methodologies, research techniques, and design history to help them understand the role of design in society and its impact on people's lives. The curriculum also emphasizes the importance of sustainable design practices and ethical considerations in product design.

    Throughout the program, students will undertake a range of design projects that will challenge them to apply their learning to real-world scenarios. They will work on projects individually and in teams, collaborating with industry partners, and gaining valuable experience in problem-solving, prototyping, and production processes.

    The program's faculty comprises experienced academics and industry professionals who bring their expertise to the classroom, providing students with insights into the latest trends and techniques in product design. The School of the Arts, USM has state-of-the-art facilities, including design studios, workshops, and computer labs, where students can work on their design projects and experiment with various materials and techniques.

    Graduates of the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Product Design with Honours program will be well-prepared for a career in the product design industry. They will have a solid grounding in design theory and practice, as well as technical skills in design tools and software. They will also have the ability to work collaboratively and independently, using their creativity and critical thinking abilities to develop innovative and sustainable design solutions.

  • REQUIREMENTS

    • STPMKPM Matriculation / Foundation Studies (UM/UKM/UiTM)Diploma / Equivalent – A-Level, IB, AUSMAT, SAM, and others
      STPM:

      i. Passed Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia Examination (STPM) with a minimum CGPA of 2.00

      AND

      ii. Obtained at least a Grade C (CGPA 2.00) in any two (2) subjects.

      AND

      iii. Excellent in the interview and talent/skills.

       

      Note:

      • Candidates must not have any visual impairment (color blindness).
      • Candidates must not have any physical disability that hinders practical work.
      • Candidates must not have any visual, hearing, or speech impairment (for the specialization in Acting & Directing [US6212002] only).
      KPM Matriculation / Foundation Studies (UM/UKM/UiTM):

      i. Passed Matriculation (KPM) / Foundation Studies (UM/UKM/UiTM)  with a minimum CGPA of 2.00

      AND

      ii. Obtained at least Grade C (2.00) in any two (2) subjects.

      OR

      ii. Obtained at least Grade C (2.00) in three (3) subjects at the TESL Foundation level at UiTM.

      OR

      ii. Obtained at least Grade C (2.00) in three (3) specialization subjects at the UiTM Law Foundation level.

      AND

      iii. Excellent in the interview and talent/skills.

      Diploma / Equivalent – A-Level, IB, AUSMAT, SAM, and others:

      Diploma in a related field with a minimum CGPA of 2.00

      OR

      Passed A-Level with a minimum score of 9 and obtain at least Grade C in any two (2) subjects.

      OR

      Passed International Baccalaureate (IB) with a minimum score of 26 and obtain at least score 4 in any two (2) High Level (HL) subjects and one (1) Standard Level (SL) subject.

      OR

      Passed AUSMAT/SAM with a minimum aggregate of 68 and obtain at least Grade C in any two (2) subjects.

      OR

      Creative Arts Certificate (Fine Arts / Painting / Acting with a good level / honors from USM).

      OR

      Have other qualifications and experience in the field of Fine Arts (Visual Exhibition Activities, Graphic Design, Commercial Artists, Illustrator, Full-time Artist, Set Designer / Interior Design, Craft Artist) or equivalent.

      OR

      Have other qualifications and experience in the field of Theatre Arts or performing arts (TV / Film / Video Production, Stage Management, Full-time Actor, Production House), Directing, Dance, or equivalent.

      OR

      Education Officer Candidates Possess a Basic Teaching Certificate in Art Education and a Special Teaching Certificate in Art Education from Maktab Perguruan Ilmu Khas (MPIK) or have a Special Education Diploma (KDPK) in Fine Arts.

      or

      Have other qualifications and experience in the field of Fine Arts (Visual Exhibition Activities, Graphic Design, Commercial Artists, Illustrator, Full-time Artist) or equivalent.

      or

      Have other qualifications and experience in the field of Theatre Arts or performing arts (TV / Film / Video Production, Stage Management, Full-time Actor, Production House), Directing, Dance, or equivalent.

      OR

      Equivalent qualification recognized by Senate of the University.

      AND

      Excellent in the interview and talent/skills.

      i. Lulus Peperiksaan Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) dengan mendapat sekurang-kurangnya PNGK 2.00

      DAN

      ii. Mendapat sekurang-kurangnya Gred C (NGMP 2.00) dalam mana-mana dua (2) mata pelajaran.

      DAN

      iii. Cemerlang dalam penilaian temu duga dan uji bakat / kemahiran.


      Nota:
      • Calon tidak mempunyai ketidakupayaan penglihatan (buta warna).
      • Calon tidak mempunyai ketidakupayaan fizikal yang menyukarkan kerja-kerja amali.
      • Calon tidak mempunyai ketidakupayaan penglihatan, pendengaran dan pertuturan (untuk pengkhususan Lakonan & Pengarahan [US6212002] sahaja).
      Matrikulasi KPM / Asasi UM / Asasi UKM / Asasi UiTM:

      i. Lulus Matrikulasi KPM / Asasi UM / Asasi UKM / Asasi UiTM dengan mendapat sekurang-kurangnya PNGK 2.00

      DAN

      ii. Mendapat sekurang-kurangnya Gred C (2.00) dalam mana-mana dua (2) mata pelajaran.

      ii. Mendapat sekurang-kurangnya Gred C (2.00) dalam tiga (3) mata pelajaran pada peringkat Asasi TESL UiTM.

      ii. Mendapat sekurang-kurangnya Gred C (2.00) dalam tiga (3) mata pelajaran pengkhususan pada peringkat Asasi Undang-undang UiTM.

      DAN

      iii. Cemerlang dalam penilaian temu duga dan uji bakat / kemahiran.

      Mempunyai Sijil Perguruan Asas dalam bidang Pendidikan Seni dan Sijil Perguruan Khas dalam bidang Pendidikan Seni daripada Maktab Perguruan Ilmu Khas (MPIK) atau mempunyai Diploma Perguruan Khas (KDPK) dalam bidang Seni Halus.
