  • Prime Channel (UPU)

    Starting from the 2017/2018 Academic Session, applications for admission to USM under the Mainstream Channel are conducted through the Online Application system coordinated by the Student Admission Management Division, Higher Education Department, Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM).

    Applicants can visit the website https://upu.mohe.gov.my/ to obtain complete information regarding general requirements and specific program prerequisites and subsequently submit their applications through the Online Application system after the advertisement is published in major local newspapers.

    i. DISTANCE LEARNING

    The School of Distance Education (SDE), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), plays a crucial role in enhancing higher education through a flexible and inclusive approach.     ii. DUAL DEGREE

    The Dual Degree Program is offered by the School of Distance Education (PPPJJ) to full-time Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) students in their second year and beyond. The degrees awarded are equivalent to the Bachelor's Degrees offered through PPPJJ and the full-time Bachelor's Degrees at other schools within USM.

    Program Advantages

    This Dual Degree Program allows students to earn two degrees during their time at the USM campus. This provides students with a competitive edge, enhanced skills, and higher employability compared to those who graduate with just one degree. 

    Blended Learning

    The Dual Degree Program offers a unique learning experience, combining:

    1. Face-to-Face Learning: Includes lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions during intensive courses.
    2. Online Learning: Supported by video conferences, Webex sessions (web conferencing), and various digital materials uploaded to the e-Learning portal.
    3. Self-Directed Learning: Utilizes e-Lecture recordings/modules produced by lecturers.

    This blended approach ensures a flexible and enriching learning experience for students.

  • Alternative Channel

    i. USM+1 (FULL PAYING FEES)

    The admission of new students through the USM+1 entry pathway is a special channel designed to provide opportunities for candidates with excellent academic qualifications who did not receive offers for their desired programs through the UPU application to pursue their preferred studies.

    Through this channel, 47 study programs from various fields are offered to applicants interested in enrolling for Semester 1 and Semester 2 of each academic session.

    Programs offered through USM+1 are conducted on a full-fee basis without subsidies. Applicants must understand the terms and conditions of admission, as well as the tuition fees imposed, before submitting their applications.

    ii. SECONDARY CHANNEL

    The admission of new students through the secondary channel is specifically designed for working individuals who previously did not have the opportunity to pursue university-level education, enabling them to obtain qualifications. The programs offered include Civil Engineering, Technology, Special Education, HBP (Housing, Building, and Planning), Health Sciences, Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) (Planning and Development Management), and Bachelor of Social Work (Honours).

    iii. LIFELONG LEARNING (ATHLETES, CULTURAL ENTHUSIASTS & SENIOR CITIZENS)

    Admissions under the lifelong learning program aim to provide opportunities for individuals who wish to continue acquiring knowledge to fulfill their dream of obtaining a Bachelor's degree while enhancing the quality of the nation's education and improving intellectual standards within Malaysian society. Students selected under the Lifelong Learning Program will receive a 50% discount on tuition fees.

    a. Athletes
    Open to candidates with STPM/Matriculation/Pre-U/Equivalent qualifications and at least 3 years of active experience as a state or national athlete.

    b. Cultural Enthusiasts
    Open to candidates with at least 5 years of experience or employment in arts-related fields recognized at the national level.

    c. Senior Citizens
    Open to Malaysian citizens aged 50 years and above with at least 10 years of work experience in related fields.

  • Diploma Programme

    i. DIPLOMA IN NURSING

    The USM Diploma in Nursing Program is a professional program accredited by the Malaysian Nursing Board. This program emphasizes academic education and clinical training to prepare skilled professional nurses proficient in safe and modern clinical nursing practices and capable of contributing to community health. Offered under the School of Health Sciences at the Health Campus in Kelantan, the program is open to candidates with a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) qualification.

    ii. ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN RENAL NURSING

    The Advanced Diploma in Renal Nursing Program at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is a professional program accredited by the Malaysian Nursing Board (LJM) and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA/FA11710). This program is designed to enable qualified nurses to enhance their knowledge, experience, and clinical skills in the field of renal nursing.

    The program is conducted full-time at the Health Campus, Universiti Sains Malaysia, in Kubang Kerian, Kelantan. Teaching and learning activities include lectures, practical training, clinical placements, e-learning, research projects, and professional visits to relevant institutions. Students will also gain structured exposure to report writing, case studies, reviews, and research outcomes.

    Students undergo 24 weeks of practical training at Hospital USM, selected hemodialysis centers within and outside Kelantan, or abroad. Additionally, they will participate in professional visits as outlined in the curriculum.

  • OffShore

    i. MD USM-KLE

    The Offshore Program in collaboration with Karnataka Lingayat Education (KLE) University in Belgaum, Bangalore, India, was first offered in the 2010/2011 Academic Session. Students will undergo a five-year program in India and will be awarded the USM Doctor of Medicine degree upon completion of their studies.

    Eligibility : STPM / Matriculation (KPM) / Foundation / Diploma / Equivalent – IB, A-Level, and others

    ii. QUANTITY SURVEYING SCIENCE – INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE IMPERIA

    USM collaborates with International College IMPERIA to offer an offshore Bachelor of Quantity Surveying Science with Honours program. Teaching and learning will take place at International College IMPERIA, Subang Jaya, Selangor. Students enrolled in this offshore program will be officially registered as USM students and will enjoy the privilege of accessing facilities at both the USM Main Campus and the International College IMPERIA Campus.
